United Health Group, the nation’s largest health insurance provider is indicating that in 2017 they will no longer offer any individual or family health insurance plans in Arizona due to unsustainable losses in direct correlation to the Affordable Healthcare Act.
This signals the first big sign of major changes in the health insurance industry and in my opinion, not a good change. With United dropping out and dropping their plans, the people on those plans will need to move to another carrier who will likely, in turn, lose millions and they too could very likely drop out of the marketplace.
The Affordable Care Act, while fixing some problems has created many more, even larger problems and created an unstable, unsustainable environment. Many people think it would be good for the government to control every facet of their lives and want nationalized healthcare. Others believe the free market works best. No matter what side of the fence you are on, big changes seem inevitable.
